If not traveling in vehicle, shut down idle engine | News, Sports, Jobs

The climate catastrophe destroying our planet is all about fossil fuel emissions, also called greenhouse gases or carbon. How can almost every adult, including Maui residents, help?

Strictly limit emissions, including those from internal combustion engines. So many on Maui are supremely ignorant or uncaring about this fact.

Recently, I walked by a guy taking endless photos of his vehicle, as the engine idled. Turn the engine off, sir. This goes for all Maui’s engine idlers — do your part! Stop driving to the store for an item or two; instead, do some planning and drive less overall. We all need to reduce our carbon emissions however we can.

Last year, during a pandemic, emissions in America went up six percent, instead of going down five percent, which was our climate change goal. I submit we’d have reached that goal if everyone who needlessly, thoughtlessly idles their gassers simply shut off the engine.

If you’re not traveling in the vehicle, turn off the engine. This tiny effort won’t kill you, or your kids or grandkids. Our worsening climate calamity could.
