BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — September has been a very warm month overall and it looks like we're going to continue the trend into early October. For the first weekend of October, we're expecting temperatures to remain roughly 10 degrees above normal with no chances of rain. With today being the last day in September, it looks like we'll probably finish as the 6th warmest on record for Boise.
In addition to the warm temperatures, we've seen very little in the way of moisture in the past several months. In September, Boise only picked up 0.04" of rain when the average is 0.58". Although it's not a lot of moisture in general, any rain that we can get this time of year can make a big impact on the fire season. The first part of October is also looking very dry.
A large ridge of high pressure is currently situated over the western states, a pattern that won't change much in the next 5-7 days. In the next few days, the biggest impact to our weather will be smoke from fires raging in the region. Models suggest that by Friday a decent amount of smoke will return to southwest Idaho.
Temperatures, on the other hand, will be quite pleasant. We're expecting highs in the 70's in the mountain valleys, and 80's in the Treasure Valley for the next several days. More on the forecast here.
