Volunteers with the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program will be offering free tax preparation assistance for low- to moderate-income residents on Maui starting Feb. 1.
Participants must make appointments beginning Jan. 24.
All volunteers are certified in the Tax-Aide program. It is not required to be an AARP member to participate.
The free assistance will be offered at the following sites by appointment only:
• Kaunoa Senior Center, Spreckelsville, Wednesdays from Feb. 1 to April 12, except March 15. Call (808) 270-7308, ext. 3.
• Kahului Jodo Mission, corner of Laau and Molokai Hema streets, Kahului, Saturdays from Feb. 11 to April 8. Call (808) 270-7308, ext. 3.
• Kihei Community Center, Mondays, Feb. 6 and 20, March 6 and 20 and April 3. Call (808) 270-7308, ext. 3.
• West Maui Senior Center, Tuesdays, Feb. 14 and 28, March 28 and April 11. Call (808) 270-4310.
Depending on how they are filing, taxpayers need to bring:
• Government-issued photo ID and Social Security cards (or 1099-SAA for individuals receiving Social Security benefits) for all taxpayers and dependents. If married and filing jointly, both spouses must be present for the appointment.
• 2020 and 2021 federal and state tax returns.
• Current tax documents, including but not limited to W-2s and 1099s (interest, dividends, pensions, IRA distributions, Social Security).
• Owner’s name, address and GET number if applying for the Hawaii rental credit.
• Cancelled check (not a deposit slip) if requesting direct deposit for any refund.
Free e-filing of tax returns will be offered.
